General Notes: Husband - Jacob Alter
He was of German descent.
He was a blacksmith and farmer, owning a farm of one hundred and eighty acres. He was a major of the militia, and filled many local public offices in Plum township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. He lived to celebrate his golden wedding, on which occasion there were ninety-six children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren present.
He was a Republican in political opinion, and an active member of the Presbyterian church.
