General Notes: Husband - Henry Forbes

He was a cabinetmaker by trade and a veteran of the civil war. He en­listed under President Lincoln's first call for troops, April 22, 1861, in Company H, Seventh Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, and held the rank of corporal in the third brigade, General E. C. Williams' First Division, General Cadwallader commanding, Army of the Potomac. He came to Franklin, Pennsyl­vania, after the war, from Bellefonte, Center county and followed his trade there until 1888, when he became superintendent of the Frank­lin Natural Gas Plant, a position he held seven­teen years. He was a man of splendid phy­sique and iron constitution, and came through the trying army experience unscathed, endur­ing hardships that none but a man of unusual vitality could have withstood. He was a man of daring bravery and at the wreck of the South Park Bridge risked his own life to save that of a woman. None of the bystanders ex­pected to see him again alive, but his great strength, cool head and brave heart brought them both safely out of the ruin. He was a member of the Baptist church and a staunch supporter of the Republican party, of which he was one of the organizers in Center County. [GPHAV, 493]
