General Notes: Husband - Joseph D. Smullin
He received his early education in the public schools and later attended the State Normal School at Clarion, Pennsylvania, after which he taught school for two years. He then worked for six years as a clerk in a general merchandise store in New Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, at the end of which time he removed to Pittsburgh and took a course in undertaking and embalming. He and his brother Charles A. then purchased the undertaking business of B. E. Carrier, at Kane, Pennsylvania, and remained in partnership until 1908, when Joseph disposed of his interest in the business to his brother and removed to Clarion, Pennsylvania, where he established the Clarion Furniture Company. He resided at 21 Liberty street, Clarion, and also owned the family homestead in Armstrong County. He was also interested, with his brother, William Carrier Smullin, in the fruit industry in Oregon.
He was a Republican in politics, and a Methodist in religion.
He was past master in New Bethlehem Lodge, No. 522, of the Free and Accepted Masons.
