He was born in Wuertemberg, Germany, and served in the cavalry under Napoleon. By trade he was a butcher, and upon his arrival in America with his family, he went to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and there established himself in his calling. He was not yet past middle age when he was thrown from his horse and, falling into a canal, was drowned. He and his family were members of the Lutheran church.
