General Notes: Husband - Peter Knight
He and his wife were born, reared and married in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and subsequently removed to Clarion County, when it still formed a part of Venango County. Here he engaged in farming throughout the remainder of his life.
He and his wife were natives of Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and representatives of prominent and highly-respected families. Soon after their marriage they came to Clarion County, where, in the midst of the dense forest, he cleared and improved a farm of 184 acres. Upon the place he erected a good brick residence, and soon converted the wild land into a highly-cultivated and valuable farm. Throughout his entire life he followed agricultural pursuits, always gave his political support to the Democratic party, and was a faithful member of the Reformed Church, in which he served as deacon. He died on the old homestead at the age of sixty-two, and his wife, who was also an earnest Christian and active member of the Reformed Church, passed away at the ripe old age of eighty-six years.
After his marriage he settled in Beaver township, Clarion County, Pennsylvania, being among the pioneer settlers of that township. He took up land in a wilderness, built a log cabin and in due time had his tract cleared and under cultivation. He made additional purchases until he owned three hundred and fifty acres in Beaver and Ashland townships. He was an energetic, capable man and died prosperous. He joined the Reformed church, and was a Democrat all his life.
He had a small distillery on his farm, and before there were any churches in the neighborhood the people gathered in the "still house" to worship whenever a preacher could be secured. [GPHAV, 771]
