He always engaged in farming. When his father passed away the homestead came to him and he made many substantial improvements there and increased the value of the land by careful cultivation. He erected a part of the buildings which stood on his property and remodeled the others.
He and his wife were members of the United Presbyterian Church. In politics he was a Republican.
