General Notes: Husband - Henry Lauffer, Sr.
In Pennsylvania Archives, 3rd series, vol. 23, page 226, we find that this Henry Lauffer is enrolled among "Rangers of the Frontiers 1778 to 1783," for Westmoreland County.
He was an enterprising farmer residing near Pleasant Unity, Westmoreland County, and was still a young man when he died at sixty-seven years, five months, twenty-one days. He died from an injury to his foot that became infected. As he resided along the stage coach route to Pittsburg and the west, just south of Greensburg, he kept a wayside inn for many years.
He spent his life on the farm, cleared and started by his father, the old Lauffer homestead near Pleasant Unity, and it was there that his death occurred, at the age of sixty-eight years.
In 1816 he took out a quarter section of land in Wayne County, Ohio, near Wooster, for each of his five children; upon one of these sections Mrs. Elizabeth Rumbaugh moved in 1817, and the farm was still in the hands of that family a century later.
