He was reared to manhood on his father's farm. He attended the subscription schools of his native township and upon attaining his majority engaged in farming and stock-raising. He owned a well-cultivated farm of one hundred and thirty acres and raised fine stock.
He was ever a stanch republican from principle and was always deeply interested in whatever benefited farming.
