General Notes: Husband - Rev. John Ewing, D.D.
Of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was a great scholar and an able minister of his time, and for many years was professionally connected with the University of Pennsylvania. He was a man of great scientific attainments, and was commissioned to run the southern line of Pennsylvania.
The celebrated scholar and divine, he became pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Philadelphia in 1759, provost of the University of Pennsylvania in 1779, and was one of the Baltimore commissioners to determine the boundary controversy between Pennsylvania and Virginia, and one of the commissioners to extend Mason and Dixon's line in 1784. He was vice president of the American Philosophical Society.
He is shown here as the son of Nathaniel Ewing and a brother of George. Other sources say that he and George were cousins.
