General Notes: Husband - Joseph McCartney
He was a native of Ireland and was a surveyor and school teacher. He settled on a tract [in Indiana County, Pennsylvania,] of which the Benson Dill farm was later a part, some time previous to the Revolution, and was driven away by the Indians. He did not return till about the closing year of that struggle. He and his neighbors erected a blockhouse on the place, its situation being near the site of the old residence. He made the first survey of Armagh for the Grahams, was among the early magistrates, held the office of county treasurer one term, etc.
