General Notes: Husband - Col. Thomas Gaddis
The Gaddis family was founded in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, by Thomas, John, Robert and Henry Gaddis, sons of William Gaddis, who came from Apple Pie Ridge, near Winchester, Virginia, to Fayette County, about the year 1780.
He served with distinction in the Revolutionary War and was second in command, a major, in the ill-fated Crawford expedition against the Indians in 1883. Later settled in Ohio, where he died at the age of ninety-four years, near Cincinnati. He served his country as a soldier, and was in receipt of a pension of $500 annually until his death.
In 1769, before the Revolution, Colonel Gaddis built a fort three miles south of Uniontown, which was still standing into the twentieth century.
