He was born in Somerset township, Washington County, Pennsylvania, and lived at home until his first marriage and then moved to a farm near Hickory which he bought in Mt. Pleasant Township. He lived there during the remainder of his life. He was a Republican in his political views and served in several township offices. He was a solider in the War of 1812.
