Unknown if this refers to this man:
REV. SAMUEL FURMAN.- Our subject was born in Northumberland county, Pennsylvania, in 1811, and was married to Pamelia Kelly, native of Erie county, Pa. He was licensed to preach by the Zion Baptist Church, of Clarion county, Pa., and ordained at Sandy Lake, Mercer county, Pa. He settled in this county, in 1849, in Green township, near present village of Cookport, and commenced his missionary work in the county in 1851, and one of the results of his labors is the East Mahofling Baptist Church, one of the largest of the sect in the county, and with it may be included very largely the membership of Fairview and Cookport Churches. He also, for some time, helped the cause at Indiana, and did not leave it until every dollar of debt for the church building was liquidated, begging the money for that purpose from other points, except the little a few at Indiana could raise. He commenced opening up a farm where he settled and for many years there was no other man's farm in sight. For five years, from 1869 to 1874, he resided in Tennessee, but has again returned to the field of early labors in the county, and resides near Purchase Line, Pa., in Grant township. [HIC 1880, 511]
