General Notes: Husband - Thompson Read

---

He was trained from childhood to the honest industry of a farmer's life, and was educated in the schools of his native township. In 1840 he bought 140 acres of wooded land six miles north of Clearfield, and by toil and careful management transformed it into one of the best farms in the vicinity. The greater portion of it was under cultivation, and there were fine orchards and substantial buildings, including a commodious residence and barn.

He was a prominent agriculturist of Goshen township, Clearfield County. Beginning in 1850, he was an elder in the Presbyterian Church at Clearfield. He was always an ardent Democrat, but had no desire to enter the political arena.
