He received his education in the schools of Summit Township and later attended Butler Business College and the American Business College at Pueblo, Colorado. He then entered the employ of the Wells-Fargo Express Company, Butler, Pennsylvania, and two years later went with O. H. Nicholas Company, where he remained for three years. In 1911 he became identified with his father's business.
He was a Republican and a member of the St. Marks Lutheran Church.
