He attended public school in Butler County, PA, and the academy at West Sunbury, after which he entered Westminster College, at New Wilmington, PA, leaving that institution in 1891. That year he became a student at the University of Wooster, in Ohio, remaining there one year, after which he took up his medical studies in Baltimore (Md.) Medical College, completing the course in the spring of 1895. He began practice that year at Slate Lick, Armstrong County, PA, in part­nership with Dr. J. C. McKee, with whom he was associated for three and a half years, in 1899 locating at McCain, in Manor township. He served as president of the Armstrong County Medical Society, and he was also a member of the Pennsylvania State Medical Society and of the American Medical Association. He was a member and elder of the United Presbyterian Church at Kittanning. In fra­ternal connection he was an Odd Fellow.
