General Notes: Husband - Robert Clemons Falconer
He received the rudiments of his education in the primary schools of his native borough, Warren, Pennsylvania, and later went to the high school for one year, thereafter proceeding to Madison, Wisconsin, where he entered the University, taking the civil engineering course, from which he was graduated in 1895. Being determined to make a record for himself, he started out to find a field of labor, not even stopping to take part in the commencement exercises. He went to New York and was successful in getting a situation in the office of Purdy Henderson, consulting engineers, to whom he was recommended by one of the professors of the University. Here he displayed his ability in a very notable manner, and was intrusted with some of the most important work in the plans for the erection of the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, of that city. He remained with this firm two years, during which time his work and his record stood the closest scrutiny, bringing credit to himself and pleasure to his employers. From New York he went to Johnstown, Pennsylvania, and occupied for one year a responsible position with the Cambria Iron Company. In 1899 he accepted a position with the Pennsylvania R. R. Co., west of Pittsburgh.
