General Notes: Husband - William McQuaid Fair

He was born on the family farm in Center township, Indiana County, Pennsylvania, and was reared there. He was educated in the locality, being given ex­cellent common school advantages, and from boyhood was his father's assistant with the work on the home place, becoming thoroughly familiar with farm work. After his father's death he assumed charge of the farm as owner, and was thereafter engaged in general farming and dairy­ing. He made a specialty of dairy­ing, and was very successful in that line, in which he profit­ably adopted the most up-to-date methods. In 1905 he built a silo, and he had other mod­ern facilities for the care of his stock and product which stamped him as a wide-awake dairyman, thoroughly alive to the advantages of hygienic surroundings and scientific methods. He had a valuable herd of high-grade Holsteins. His product was shipped to Pitts­burgh. He served his fellow citizens as school di­rector. He was a Democrat in poli­tics and took a keen interest in the welfare of his party; he also served on the board of elections.
