General Notes: Husband - William McQuaid Fair
He was born on the family farm in Center township, Indiana County, Pennsylvania, and was reared there. He was educated in the locality, being given excellent common school advantages, and from boyhood was his father's assistant with the work on the home place, becoming thoroughly familiar with farm work. After his father's death he assumed charge of the farm as owner, and was thereafter engaged in general farming and dairying. He made a specialty of dairying, and was very successful in that line, in which he profitably adopted the most up-to-date methods. In 1905 he built a silo, and he had other modern facilities for the care of his stock and product which stamped him as a wide-awake dairyman, thoroughly alive to the advantages of hygienic surroundings and scientific methods. He had a valuable herd of high-grade Holsteins. His product was shipped to Pittsburgh. He served his fellow citizens as school director. He was a Democrat in politics and took a keen interest in the welfare of his party; he also served on the board of elections.
