General Notes: Husband - Hugh Allison
He was from early manhood an elder in the North Buffalo Seceder Church, was a prominent temperance advocate, and succeeded in having the first temperance society formed in his vicinity. He was one of the first to refuse liquor to farm hands while working in the field. He was a great reader, and had a large library of books. He was a man of strong will, of very pronounced opinions, and was an advocate of women's rights. At the time of his death, which occurred suddenly from an attack of colic, he was the owner of 400 acres of land in Chartiers township, Washington County.
He was a man of robust health. He was an active worker in the United Presbyterian Church, and was chosen elder at the age of about twenty years. He attended all the synods and meetings of the Presbytery, and was present at the meeting that made slavery a question of communion; he was also an ardent advocate of the temperance cause. He was commissioned major in the State Militia. He was a Whig, active in politics, and held several offices of public trust in the township.
General Notes: Wife - Jane Gabby
The source gives her year of birth and death, given, but states she died at eighty years of age, which doesn't add up. One might guess that she was born later (1791?), otherwise she was bearing children at a remarkably advanced age.
