General Notes: Husband - John Frederick
He was educated in his native land and served five years in the German army. He came to the United States in 1854 and settled at Millerstown, Butler County, Pennsylvania, where he followed his trade of shoemaker. He enlisted in 1861 in Company I, Seventy-fourth Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, serving three years and six months; he was engaged with his regiment in the first battle of Bull Run, Antietam, the Wilderness, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg (where he lost a thumb), the battles of the Shenandoah campaign and many others.
He was a Republican, and a member of the German Lutheran church.
