The ancestors of this family were born in County Londonderry, Ireland, and in 1725 came to America.

The Ewings are of Scotch-Irish ancestry, who early in the 1700s emigrated from the North of Ireland to America, settling in East Nottingham, Maryland.

He was an early pioneer, a farmer who settled in Cecil County, Maryland, and reared a family of eight sons.
