Death Takes L. M. Beatty [Mar 22, 1938]
Levi M. Beatty, 88, a resident of Bartlesville since statehood, died at 3:30 yesterday afternoon at his home, 310 South Shawnee. Beatty was found about 6 o'clock Monday evening by his wife lying on the garage floor at their home. He was in a semi-conscious condition and told his wife he had fallen down. He remained semi-conscious until his death. Physicians expressed the belief that he had suffered a stroke.
Beatty was born on May 6, 1849, at Dempseytown, Pa. He spent his early years at Dempseytown and at Parkers Landing, Pa., where he worked as a drilling contractor in the oil fields. He married Miss Clara Allison at Franklin, Pa., on October 24, 1876. The couple would have celebrated their sixty-second wedding anniversary next October.
They moved to Des Moines, Ia., in 1878 where Beatty engaged in farming and also operated a general store. In 1896, they moved to Montpelier, Ind. He worked in the oil field there and also at Warren and Marion, Ind.
The family came to Indian Territory in 1904 and settled in the Alluwe community where Beatty was employed on a lease. They moved to Dewey in 1907, and the following year they came to Bartlesville. Beatty worked in the oil fields here for a number of years, retiring in 1926 because of his advanced age.
Beatty was well known in the oil fraternity throughout this area in the early days and was one of the few remaining pioneers who came here at statehood. He was a member of the Presbyterian church
Workmen. He was active despite his advanced years and made his way about unassisted until he was stricken.
Beatty is survived by his widow, Mrs. Clara A. Beatty; one son, Floyd A. Beatty of Bartlesville; two daughters, Mrs. J. Robert Ray of this city and Miss Belle Beatty of the home, and four granddaughters, Mrs. Mildred Wilkie, Joann Beatty and Ruth Ray of Bartlesville and Mrs. Roberta Withers of Los Angeles, Calif.
