When a young girl she was made captive by the Indians during one of their incursions into the territory east of the Susquehanna river, after the defeat of Braddock, in the fall of 1755. She was captured at a place near what is now Pine Grove, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, and was carried into the wilderness west of the Ohio river, where she remained a prisoner until General Forbes broke the French power over that territory. She was then rescued and returned to her friends in Berks County, and lived to a ripe old age.
