General Notes: Husband - Byron Hayes Frampton
He was reared on his father's farm, remaining there until twenty-two years of age. He received his education in the public schools and at Reid's Institute. On leaving the farm he went to Callensburg, and became engaged in mercantile pursuits, following that business there for three years. He was next occupied for two years in the lumber business, following which he again went into merchandising, this time at Clarion. He was a successful merchant of the borough for the succeeding seven years when he engaged in the insurance business and became interested in oil producing, and followed these lines of business several years. In 1893 he was appointed postmaster of Clarion.
He and his wife identified with the Baptist Church; he was leader of the choir for over twelve years. Socially, Mr. Frampton was a member of the F. &. A. M., and I. O. O. F. In politics he was a Democrat, believing firmly in the principles of the party, and was ever been active in party work.
He was educated in the Clarion township public school and Reid Institute at Reidsburg, Pennsylvania. He early entered mercantile life, had a general store at Callensburg, Clarion County, for three years; then in 1884 moved to Clarion borough, where he continued in business. From 1884 to 1892 he engaged in the grocery, china and glassware business, then sold out his mercantile lines, establishing a life and fire insurance agency. His business undertakings were not confined to the lines mentioned. He was an independent coal operator, having mines at Lucinda. Before coming to Clarion he was interested, with his father, in lumber manufacturing, and had extensive oil interests, both alone and with others. His was a life of constant activity and well directed successful effort. He was a director and manager of the Leatherwood Telephone Company, and for ten years was director or secretary of the Clarion County Fair Association. He was public-spirited, progressive and helpful in all that tends to advance Clarion interests. He was a Democrat in politics; was postmaster of Clarion four years, under President Cleveland; was chairman of the county committee three years, delegate to many state conventions and was an influential party leader. He was member of Clarion Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons; Clarion Chapter, Royal Arch Masons; Franklin Commandery, Knights Templar; and Jaffa Temple, Nobles of the Mystic Shrine. He was also an Odd Fellow, belonging to Lodge and Encampment.
