General Notes: Husband - John Nicholas Emerick

He was associated with John Jacob Astor, Sr., in the fur trade, 1787 to 1817. Before Mr. Emerick's death, he is reported to have created a trusteeship, with Mr. Astor as trustee, to continue for 99 years, when the estate was to be distributed among the heirs of his two brothers, Christopher and Valentine Emerick. Several efforts were made to bring about a settlement of the estate, but the Astors for a long time succeeded in resisting the claim.
