He was educated at Bethel Academy, and subsequently attended Washington and Jefferson College; after the division in the college, in 1868, he read medicine with Dr. D. Donaldson, and in the spring of 1871 graduated from the Cleveland College, located in Noblestown, Pennsylvania. After five years he came to Millvale, where he had a fine practice. He was a democrat, and a member of the A. O. U. W.
