General Notes: Husband - James J. Patterson
He was reared on a farm and received his education in the rural schools of that day. He was engaged in tilling his farm in Rostraver township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, until 1867 when he removed to West Newton. On April 14, 1869, he was commissioned postmaster of that place, served for eight years and three months and then resigned to embark in the drug business, which he followed for several years. In 1887 he engaged in the grocery business.
He was a pronounced republican, and took a rather an active part in politics. He served his native town by acting six years as councilman. He was a member of the West Newton United Presbyterian church, of whose board of trustees he served as chairman for many years.
