General Notes: Husband - John Quincy Adams Rutherford
He received his education in the public schools of Swatara township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, until he was sixteen years old, when he attended the academy for a year and a half. In 1864 he enlisted in company G, Two Hundred and First regiment, and served for ten months. Following this, his time was divided between teaching and farming.
He was a Republican and served as school director for six years. He was a member of G. A. R. Post No. 58, and also a member of the Presbyterian church.
