General Notes: Husband - Joseph Elder


He was of Scotch-Irish ancestry, and first settled in Path Valley, Franklin County, Pennsylvania, subsequently removing to Ligonier Valley, Westmoreland County. There he became the owner of a one hundred and sixty acre farm which he succeeded in clearing. Politically, he was originally a Whig, and later identified himself with the Republicans. He and his wife were members of the Presbyterian church of Ligonier.

He came to Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, with his parents as a boy, and there grew up, acquiring a farm of one hundred and sixty acres. He and his family were members of the Presbyterian church, and he was a staunch Republican.
