General Notes: Husband - Samuel R. Eicher
He was born on his father's farm in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, and it was there that he grew to manhood. He attended the local schools, and after completing his studies at these institutions learned the trade of carpentry. In the year 1864 he enlisted in Company E, Sixth Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery, and after considerable service was mustered out at the close of the war. He returned at first to Fayette County, but in 1867 removed to West Overton, Westmoreland County, where he followed his trade as carpenter. In the year 1870 he came to Scottdale and there engaged in contracting on his own account, a business which he continued to follow during the remainder of his active life. Many of the handsomest and largest buildings in the region of Scottdale were erected by him and among these could be mentioned the First Methodist Episcopal Church; the Baptist church; and the Catholic church, besides a large number of private dwellings, many of which were very handsome. Besides his contracting business he was identified with the Scottdale Building Association, of which he was a founder and one of the first directors. In the year 1867 Mr. Eicher became a member of the Christian church, and from that time until some five years before his death was a most active member thereof. At that time he was afflicted with paralysis, which left him an invalid.
