General Notes: Husband - John David Scholl
One evening he had been sitting on his porch and when he entered his cabin to retire something hindered his closing the door. Not seeing the object clearly and thinking his cane might have fallen in the door-way, he stooped to pick it up. It proved to be a copperhead snake, which bit him, causing his death. On the day set for the burial Shamokin Creek was flooded, and as there was no bridge over it at that time, it was found necessary to bury him in one of his fields. About seventy years later, September 7, 1865, his remains and those of his wife, who had desired to be buried beside him, were taken up by their grandsons, Daniel Riblet of Galion, Ohio, and Jacob Scholl, and reinterred beside those of their son Peter at the Blue Church, near Paxinos, Rapho township, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.
