He was at one time State Librarian of Pennsylvania, and later was vice-principal of Southwestern State Normal School at California, Pennsylvania.

. . . a professor in the State normal school at California, Pennsylvania, which he helped to establish, and was also a professor in Wittenberg College, Springfield, Ohio; he retired in 1913 and resided with his son at York, Pennsylvania, until his demise, Jan. 31, 1914.
