He was reared on the farm, in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, and attended the district school, also the academy at Shippensburg. He resided on the farm all his life, but his principal business was dealing in horses. He bought, imported, shipped and sold, and traded in horses very extensively for many years, and was an excellent judge of such stock.
He was a Democrat in politics; served as school director of his district.
