General Notes: Husband - Joseph Eberhart
He and three of his brothers were among the early settlers of Hickory Township, Mercer County, Pennsylvania. He subsequently went west and died.
He settled in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, in 1823. He removed from there to Armstrong County, and from there to Kansas Territory [Douglas County, Kansas] when it was first opened to settlement. While in Butler and Armstrong Counties, he served as a colporteur for the American Tract Society. He raised a large family of seven boys and six girls.
He was a tailor by trade, and followed his trade until 1825, when he removed to Mercer County, Pennsylvania, subsequently in 1837 to Millerstown, Butler County, in 1845 to Armstrong County, and in 1854 to Douglas County, Kansas, where he died at the age of eighty-two years.
In 1854 he emigrated to Kansas, where he engaged in farming and also preached in the Lutheran Church, labored as a Bible agent and held many church offices.
He was not quite so large and robust as his brethren. For many years he was afflicted with dyspepsia, and during that time he engaged in selling goods and "Yankee notions," etc., but all the time had a good farm to depend upon for his living. He was all his life a zealous, consistent member of the Lutheran Church.
On moving to Kansas, before regular ministers were sent there and the Church established, he was licensed to preach, and for years he worked as a pioneer missionary, by way of educating the people and gathering them into societies. He also labored as Bible agent and colporteur of tracts and other religious books. He was noted for being a cool-headed, well-balanced, but decidedly persistent, man.
