General Notes: Husband - John Adam Eberhart
Some of the Eberharts came from Germany to Pennsylvania as early as 1727, landing at Philadelphia on the 16th of October, in that year, on a vessel named "Friendship." All descended in a direct line from the celebrated "Eberhart mit ihm hart," first duke of Wurtemberg.
John Adam Eberhart, duke of Elsass (Alsace), Germany had four sons (Andrew, George, Martin and Adolphus), all of whom came to America in the ship "Banister," under command of Capt. John Doyle, landing at New York in the autumn of 1758.
He was very wealthy, being the owner of extensive glass works and large tracts of land.
Since all four of his sons had gone to America, when he died there was not found a legal and direct heir to the dukeship, and it fell back to his brother Philip's son, of Wirtemberg, where the Eberharts still belonged to the nobility, and had been the reigning dukes and counts from "Eberhard the Noble" in 1265, to "Leopolt Eberhard" in 1723\emdash four hundred and fifty-eight years.
Many, if not most, of the Eberharts hailed from Wirtemberg. It is true that some of them had first settled in other countries, such as Switzerland, Baden, Bavaria, Elsass and Pfaltz, and came from those places to America. And prior to the establishing of the Province of Wirtemberg they had been scattered all over the German empire. They were undoubtedly the descendants of the ancient Saxons who dwelt in the north of Germany during the first centuries of the Christian era, and who invaded and conquered Britain during the first part of the Sixth century.
