He was educated in Warren high school, Maryland Military and Naval Academy, and Pennsylvania State College. He was admitted to the bar of Warren County, September 12, 1891, practiced in Warren until 1900, then engaged in manufacturing in Franklin, Pennsylvania, later locating in New York City, where he was extensively engaged in the manufacture of railway supplies and equipment.
