General Notes: Husband - James Turner Dye

He came to America in 1864, locating in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, where he engaged in coal mining.
He operated coal mines for many years, having large contracts for furnishing coal to corporations in Canada and elsewhere. He first operated at Jackson Mines, which contract he finished in 1896. He also conducted a large general store at Jackson Centre. He went to the Ormsby mines (commonly called the "Yellow Dog" mines) in 1888, which they finished in 1898, and he then went to a location at Sandy Lake. There he successfully operated the Hess mines and the Egbert mines, and gave constant employment to about twenty-five men until 1907, when he disposed of his interest to his sons, who then operated the mines.
In his church affiliations Mr. Dye was a Presbyterian, belonging to the church at Sandy Lake. In his political choice he was a Democrat.
