General Notes: Husband - William White
He settled in Sandy Creek Township, Mercer County, PA, in 1837.
In the year 1837 he became a member of a colony of half a dozen families who sold their farms in the Buckeye state and brought all their worldly goods and families to new homes in Mercer County, PA. Two wagons, drawn respectively by oxen and horses, contained the women and children, and several of the men trudged along on foot with a pole over their shoulders, from which was suspended a large sack filled with the gold which represented the proceeds from the sale of the Ohio lands. Most of the families finally settled on and below the Greenville road in Sandy Creek Township. William White bought six hundred acres of timber land, extending from the Greenville road in Sandy Creek Township to the Little Shenango creek. With the assistance of his two older sons he cleared the farm from the wilderness and resided there until his death.
