He was born in Clarion County, Pennsylvania, in 1835; came to Franklin, Pennsylvania, in 1839.

Civil War: he enlisted in Company A, 15th PA Cavalry, on August 12, 1862; served three years. He was wounded at Culpepper, Virginia.

In 1879 he had six children; three living.
