General Notes: Husband - Capt. Samuel W. Ewing

He was reared on the farm, and with the exception of a few years he was engaged in carpentering, always led a farmer's life.

He was primarily a farmer by occupation, on one occasion spending three years in California, where he was engaged in lumber dealing.

He began residing on his farm in 1839. It consisted of eighty-one acres, beautifully located. He was captain of militia fifteen years; held township offices, and was a member of the U. P. Church. In politics he always adhered strongly to the principles of the democratic party.
