General Notes: Husband - John C. Rochester

Marion, Indiana Co, PA

When a boy, he drifted into New York, where he worked on the Erie canal. He visited various portions of the then Far West. In 1837 he located in New Alexandria, Pennsylvania, where he was married. For some years he engaged in manufacturing boots and shoes, employing fifteen workmen, and subsequently engaged in merchandising. In 1856 he removed to Marion, and in the following year erected a storeroom, later occupied by Rochester & Laughlin. He was the first postmaster of Marion.
