General Notes: Husband - Jacob Hemminger
When a youth, he worked on his father's farm, and received such schooling as was generally given to farmers' sons. He was engaged in farming until 1868, when he opened a general store at Mount Holly Springs, and, in 1870, was elected auditor of Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. In 1872 he returned to his farm, and there remained for some time. When he again removed to Carlisle, he engaged in merchant tailoring and general mercantile business, in connection with real estate and auctioneering. The mercantile business he closed out in 1881, and to the other department he added fire insurance. In 1884 he was elected treasurer of Cumberland County. He and his wife were members of the Lutheran Church. Mr. Hemminger was a member of the K. of P.
