General Notes: Husband - Samuel Plummer Emery

He pursued his initial studies in the public schools of New Castle, Pennsylvania, and was subsequently a student at Geneva College, from which he was graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Arts in the class of 1887. Having chosen the law as a profession, he entered the office of Dana & Long, of New Castle, where his diligent application for two years secured his admission to the Lawrence County bar in 1890. He began practice at New Castle, and continued with gratifying success for twenty-six years. Careful attention to the interests of his clients brought him business and honor, so that he received promotion by the choice of his contemporaries. Having been duly elected to that position, he took the office of President Judge of Lawrence County on the first Monday of January, 1916. To the present time [1926] he has continued in that office, with credit to himself and the benefit of the public interest, as well as approval of the bar. He had previously served the public as city councilman, in which capacity he served for about two years, being president of the council during that period. For a period of three years he was district attorney. In political movements, Judge Emery has always acted with the Republican Party, believing in its principles, and striving to secure the service of its best representatives in the management of public concerns. He is a member and director of the New Castle Board of Trade. He attends and supports the First Presbyterian Church. He is also identified with several clubs and fraternities and among these may be mentioned Noonday and Field clubs, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, and the Masonic Fraternity. In the latter, he is a member of New Castle Lodge, No. 463, Free and Accepted Masons; and the various bodies up to and including Valley of New Castle Consistory. [PAH, 55]
