He was born at Wexford, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. In 1864 he removed to Harmony, Butler County, where he was closely identified with the industrial development of the town and later became one of the owners of the great woolen mills that was even then an old concern. After this he devoted the remainder of his life to the woolen business, and was one of the well-known figures in the western part of Pennsylvania.
