General Notes: Husband - John Dorn
He was reared at Greensburg, Pennsylvania, and received his education in the public schools. As soon as he was of proper age to enter into business, he engaged with his father at the Dorn livery stables. In 1868 he withdrew from the livery business, accepted a position in the planing-mill of Reed, Wilson and Company, and remained in their employ for eight years. In 1877 he made a tour of nearly all the western states and continued to reside west of the Mississippi river for ten years. In 1887 he left the west and returned to Greensburg. In 1888 he entered into a partnership with his brother Louis and George E. Kuhns, under the firm name of the Greensburg Brewing Company. Their brewery had a capacity of 5,000 barrels per year. They had a large local as well as an extensive general trade. In addition to his brewery interests he was the proprietor of the Dorn livery and feed stables at Greensburg. He kept a large stock of good horses, fine buggies and excellent carriages and was well patronized by the traveling public. John Dorn was a conservative democrat, yet he firmly believed in the principles and usages of the Democratic party as laid down and practiced by Thomas Jefferson in the early years of the American Republic.
