Bigler Twp, Clearfield Co, PA

He left school and went into business, devoting himself to farming and looking after his coal interests. He carried on general farming and raised stock for his own use. For at least five years coal was taken out from under the surface of his farm and still the vein was not exhausted.
He and his family attended the Presbyterian church. He served his township as school director and road superintendent. Beginning in 1873 he was identified with Glen Hope Lodge, No. 669, Odd Fellows.
