He served four years in the Union Army in the Civil War. After his return home he wrote, under the pen-name of Peleg Arkwright, and also under his own name for the "Century" and other periodicals. He published a volume of poems, "Love Among the Gamins," 1877, "Mask and Domino," a volume of poems, 1888, and "From the Chapparal to Wall Street." a novel, in 1891.
