He attended school at Glade Run and Elder's Ridge academies, and graduated at Lafayette College, Easton, Pennsylvania, He afterwards graduated at the Chicago Theological Seminary. He was pastor of a church in Illinois for four years, and was later pastor of the Presbyterian church at Fullerton, Nince County, Nebraska.
