General Notes: Husband - Joseph H. Wright
He obtained his education at the common schools and Mercer Academy. Politically he was a Democrat. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church.
He was born on the Wright homestead, in East Lackawannock Township, Mercer County, PA, on which his father located in 1804. As soon as physically able, he began to assist his father in the pioneer labor clearing the farm from its dense growth of timber. He succeeded to the ownership of the parental acres, and one day while roaming over the farm he accidentally came across a ground hog's burrow, and to his great surprise found in the dirt that the animal had thrown out some pieces of coal. This discovery led to a research, and a fine deposit of coal was located. He at once opened a mine and began its operation, and for many years furnished all the coal used in Mercer. Continuing farming and mining, he remained on the homestead until his death. [HMC 1909, 894]
There appear to be difficulties in the lists of his children. [HMC 1888, 899] lists "Mary" and states that her husband was James Allen. This list also includes "Emma".
[HMC 1909, 894] lists "Mary" and "Emma Mary" and states that the latter was married to James Allen.
