General Notes: Husband - Soloman K. Ebersole
He was reared in Mount Pleasant, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and received his education in the public schools and at what was later known as Mount Pleasant Institute. In 1853 he entered into his first regular employment as a clerk in a general store in that town. He was then but fifteen years of age. He followed the occupation of clerking until 1862, when he engaged in business on his own account in company with John D. McCaleb, succeeding John Sherrick. They conducted the business under the firm name of McCaleb and Ebersole for three years, and for the succeeding two years under the name of McCaleb, Ebersole & Company. This arrangement existed for two years, when Mr. McCaleb sold his interest in the business to Mr. Christian Tranger, and the firm name became Ebersole, Tranger & Zook, which existed until 1877, when the business was closed up. For the next five years Mr. Ebersole was engaged in clerking, and in 1883 entered in the management of a furniture store, and after one year thus engaged accepted a position as bookkeeper at the planing mill. From 1896 to 1900 he was manager of a large dry-goods house and in 1900 formed the Ebersole Company, located at 601 Main street, Mount Pleasant. Here he conducted a first-class dry-goods establishment, and from the very outset the business was a success. Mr. Ebersole was a member of the A. O. U. W., and a regular attendant of the United Brethren church, in the affairs of which he always took an active interest. He was a member of the official board, and taught in the primary department of the Sunday school for over twenty-five years.
